Windy & Wintry

April 3, 2012
Well!! That was a bit of a shock this morning, I know it had been predicted, but who believes weather forecasters, especially when they got it so right last week!
Having cleared the van of snow, off we went to collect our motley crew. Weather getting progressively worse as we climbed steeper towards the Lammermuirs. All collected, we disembarked from the van, Fliss & I wrapped up from head to toe.
Dogs were completely non plussed, in fact they were relishing the weather! Oreo & Rudi trying to make Snow Angels, whilst Hamish was pretending to be a snow plough, shovelling his little nose through the snow. Jess & Luka the lab ladies behaving slightly more elegantly. As we deepened into the woods, we all became miniature diggers...heads down and ploughing our way through the snowy blizzards, whilst the wind howled through the tress. Onto the open field and my it fair rattled the bones! Dogs decided this was the time for a bit of a run and chase, which no doubt helped to keep them warm.
Heading back to the van, everyone was obviously starting to tire and keen to get back to their towels and treats. Suddenly there was an enormous crashing noise and as we gathered the dogs for safety, there, only 20 yards in front of us was a fallen tree, Rudi was quickly off to investigate. It took Fliss and I a couple of minutes to register what had happened 'Was that tree blocking the path as we left the car park?' . No, it was another victim of the previous storms and obviously its roots had been severely weakened. So we scrambled our way through the freshly fallen branches, some finding it much easier than others.........and so to the van and some warmth and comfort.

Cold & Wet

April 2, 2012
Well, weather aside (eeeeewwww!!) We had a really goody day today. Dogs a bit subdued in the damp, but still up for a good sniff and play. We got fabulously close to a young deer before it decided to bounce of with its fluffball tail disappearing into the distance - as we were watching this, we heard a very unusual noise from the reservoir, still trying to identify it, looked over the edge to see 2 geese happily paddling along with a  Mallard duck & drake. Truly wasn't expecting to see geese,...

On a Cold & Frosty Morning

January 29, 2012
Winter not quite biting, more of a gentle nibble!
Still took sometime to defrost the van this morning, before we were carefully on our way. Roads weren't too bad, but footpaths to some houses a little slippy.
All collected, we decided ( well I did, dogs always concur! ) We would have a fabby woodland/ river walk up by Gifford.
Very hard and frosty underfoot, made a pleasant change from all last weeks mud, dogs not bothered and the Mond...

Welcome to 2012

January 29, 2012
What a very blustery, windy start to the New Year. Thankfully we were still on holiday on the Tuesday, although Oreo still had to be taken out! Not very far, I hasten to add!! Even on the short walk we did, it was difficult to stay upright and already obvious there was going to be a lot of damage all round.
Wednesday on the other hand we had a full quota and a very interesting walk. Never quite sure where to walk on these horrendou...

Funday Monday!

January 29, 2012
Took a new route today between North Berwick and East Linton. Not such a quiet route as I had hoped, stayed off the beaten track eventually having met a couple of vans and the postie, obviously having a busy time helping santa with his parcels.
Blessing for the dogs - labs and springers as this meant we managed to unearth 2 hares, involving a very long chase, although Bramble ( who's 1st birthday was yesterday) was a bid be-fuddl...

Friday 9th December - after the storm

January 29, 2012
After yesterday's hairraising ( and lots of other things) weather, we decided to brave it and went to Saltoun Big Wood.
Where it was very muddy and very calm. Landscape for the first part of the walk had changed, lots of fallen branches and swerves round our normal paths which were much, much muddier. Seemed to have brought many new scents as the dogs were all away sniffing and chasing.
Further on into the woods and they started to ...

Hurricane Day!

January 29, 2012
Well, what an interesting day!!
Where to walk, woods or coast?? Didn't much like the thought of trees/branches falling on us, or being lashed by waves, so took the middle road and did Bolton to Gifford.
10 minutes from the van, we had sideways rain/hail, I was suitably drenched within 30 seconds....never been so wet!! Dogs shaking ears and looking at me as if I was a mad woman!! Rain went off as we took cover at the edge of the w...

Cold & Slightly Snowy Monday!!

January 29, 2012
Posted on Monday, December 05, 2011 10:49 PM
Not too much snow here in Haddington, but on our tootle round East Lothian collecting dogs, it would seem some places have had lots more snow.
Didn't hinder the happyhounds fantastic walk today, crisp underfoot and slightly chilly, but dogs up for a good time, not noticing it was a bit Brrrrr!!
Still squirrels on the ground which gave Luka & Oreo a great deal of time with nose to the ground and quizzically staring at trees!! Meanw...

1st Day of December!

January 29, 2012
Considering this is the 1st of December, the weather was very kind to us.
A little bit chilly to start, but we all soon worked up a heat....tongues lolling & tails wagging. Bobby, ESS new recruit fitted in beautifully and was so happy when he found a ball!! Such a springer thing, the ball obsession, came with us until nearly the end of the walk, lost just before the end, by the distraction of a pheasant!!
I thought it a bit chilly...
